EVMM Manipulation Flashcards
The 5 components of the set-up
- Dr. position
- Patient position
- Dr. contact point
- Patient contact point
- Line of Drive
Importance of the line of drive
Correct line of drive is along the planes of the joint
3 Dr contact points
Calcaneal, Pisiform, V-trough
Importance of correct Dr position, how to protect your wrists and shoulders
Protect wrist by wrapping other hand around wrist to prevent hyperextension, shoulders square, flex abdominals, keep back straight, keep hands lower than shoulders
Muscles Dr uses to make an HVLA thrust
Triceps and pectorals
Recoil: is it good or bad and why
Recoil occurs in patient, do not transfer to Dr. as can harm Dr.
Importance of “bringing the joint to tension”
The end of the paraphysiologic range is where the adjustment should occur
Difference between short lever and long lever manipulation
- Short – patient contact point is close to the joint
- Long – patient contact point is further from the joint
**The basis of manipulation, the diagnosis **
Motion palpation
When to reconsider manipulation
- Muscles that are tense or in spasm
- Neurologic signs
- History of trauma w/ possible fracture
- Severe DJD
- Joint Laxity
