What is the epid for Erythema Multiforme (EM)?
Often affects young adults
What is the defition of EM?
inflammation of skin and mucous membranes – type IV hypersensitivity
What can cause EM?
- Infections
1. Herpes (HSV)
2. Mycoplasma
3. HIV - Drug reactions
1. Sulphonamides (Abx)
What is the lesion like in EM?
- Target lesions
- Central vesicle/crust
- Ring of pallor
- Ring of erythema
What is the distribution of the EM lesion like?
Often start on hands and then spreads
What are symptoms of EM?
- Prodrome
(fever, aches)- Tender/itchy/pain
What is the treatment for EM minor?
topical emollient and topical/oral corticosteroids
What is the treatment of EM major?
Topical emollient and oral/IV corticosteroids
What is the epid of molluscum contangiosum?
Often affects young children and common
What is the defintion of MC?
skin infection due to pox virus (molluscum contagiosum virus)
What is the lesion like in MC?
- Smooth papule
- Umbilicated
- Usually painless
- Often itchy
What are RF for MC?
Immunocompromised (e.g. HIV)
What is the transmission of MC?
close contact (e.g. swimming pools, sexual contact)
What is the management of MC?
- Observation
- Topical potassium hydroxide
- Cryotherapy (2nd line)
What Ix are done for EM and MC?
