Epithelial Tissues Flashcards
Epithelial
Cells are going to be packed together, see this tissue on body surfaces, blood vessels and lungs
Classification of Epithelial Tissues
Number of layers, and shape
Number of layer names
simple
pseudostratified
stratified
Simple
1 layer
Stratified
Multiple layers
Pseudostratified
looks like multiple layers but is not
Simple Squamous
Single flattened layer of cells, diffusion occurs, seen in lungs and kidneys (allows filtration) ex. O2 and CO2
Simple Cubodial
seen in ovaries, and ducts of kidneys, has lumen
Lumen
open space in duct or hollow organ
Simple Columnar
Can posses cilia and some can not. Ciliated = found in Fallopian tubes, moves egg. found in trachea - moves out particles. Nonciliated - had microvili instead (absorption) seein in stomach and intestines, has goblet cell.
Goblet Cell
secretes mucus/gland and unicellular
Pseudostratified Columnar
found in lungs, bronchioles, trachea. nuclei are uneven illusion of multiple layers attached to the basement membrane. has cilia for movement, goblet cells to secrete mucus.
Stratified Squamous
Multiple layers of flat cells
seen in layers of skin, cervix, and mouth, filled with keratin
Keratin
protein
Transitional
shape shifter, cubodial —> squamous, found in uterus and bladder
