Connective Tissues Flashcards
Macrophage
use phagocytosis to engulf foreign microbes in the body
Stem Cell
They can be any cell that is needed in the body
White Blood Cells
Fight off disease, infections, sickness, etc. “Buffy Coat”
Fibers
Reticular Fibers: provides stretchability to tissue, made up of elastin (protein)
Collagen
Thickest and strongest, displays tensile stength, pulled without tearing
Role of Connective Tissue
- Support
- Insulation (adipose tissues)
- Produce red blood cells
- Protects against infection
- Helps repair damaged tissues
Loose Connective Tissues
Areolar, Adipose, Reticular
Dense Connective Tissue
Hyaline Cartilage, ELastic Cartilage, Fibrocartilage, Blood, Bone
Areolar
- Made up of primarily fibroblasts, collagen and elastic fibers.
- Found in most areas of the body.
- Ex: Under epthelieal tissue, binds to skin to organs, and breast tissue.
Adipose
- Fat Cells (tryglyceride).
- Seem around the kidneys (padding), on surface of the heart, stomach area, back of eyeballs (cushion).
Reticular
Made up of thin reticular fibers. It provides framework of support for the organs that they are apart of.
Hyaline Cartilage
Made up of collagen fibers. Chondrocytes - “cartilage cells.” Lacuna - space in cartilage cell. Found in fetal skeleton, found in joints of ends of bones (end of nose)
Elastic Cartilage
Made up of elastic fibers/chondrocytes, found in larynx (voice box), found in outer ear
Fibrocartilage
Made mostly of collagen fibers, to provide a framework for support, found in between vertebrae
Blood
Red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, plasma, and cryopercipertate factor 8
