Enzymes Flashcards
How do enzymes work?
They lower the activation energy needed to start a reaction so it can go faster,
enzyme sucrase breaks down substrate sucrose
True or False:
Enzymes can be reused to do another chemical reaction

True or False:
The shape of the active site is specific to the substrate and the enzyme the works with it.
true
True or False:
Enzymes are able to catalyze several different chemical reactions
False
True or False:
Enzymes and Substrates are found in cells
True
catalyst
Speeds up chemical reactions without any change being done to it
enzyme
A catalyst that operates under specific conditions to lower activation energy
activation energy
The energy that a reaction needs to begin
substrate
The molecule the enzyme is working on
all about enzymes
Catalysis occurs when an enzyme is paired with a substrate, which changes it to break it down or combine it with another molecule. The more substrates, the faster the rate of reaction. When hydrogen bonds are broken, the enzymes become denatured, which affects its activity level. The more enzymes, the less activation energy needed to make products.
hydrolysis
a chemical reaction in which a molecule of water breaks chemical bonds
dehydration synthesis
the creation of larger molecules from smaller monomers where a water molecule is released
