What was the Russian Revolution

A

It was an event where the people of Russia overthrew their Czar (king) and created a new government

What were the causes of the Russian Revolution?

A

The people of Russia was unhappy with their government. During WW1 Russia suffered many casualties and created food shortages at home. Czar Nicholas 2 was the ruler of Russia at the time and people thought he abused his power by denying the right of the people

Who were the Bolsheviks?

A

This was the radical (extreme) group that was leading the Russian Revolution. The leader of this group was Vladimir Lenin. Lenin and the Bolsheviks gained support by promising the people “peace, land, and bread” This meant that they would take Russia out of WW1 and give land to peasants and feed everyone

A

Czar Nicholas 2 was executed. Lenin and the Bolsheviks came to power in Russia and Russia became a Communist nation.

They are governments where one ruler has complete control over ALL aspects of life within a country. They control the political, social, and economic features of a nation

What were three common characteristics between the totalitarian dictators

A

Censorship- where they ended freedom of speech in their countries. The government strictly controlled the media. One political party- where only the political part of the dictators was allowed to exist. Stalin’s political part was called the Communists. Mussolini’s political part was the Fascists and Hitlers was the Nazis. People were expected to put the needs of the country before theirs and they eliminated people who opposed them with a secret police force and propaganda. Hitler and Mussolini came to power because their countries were facing inflations and unemployment where the people believed that only these two could solve the problem

A

He was the totalitarian dictator of the Soviet Union/Russia.

What did Stalin do?

A

He established a command/communist economy which was an economic system where the government owns businesses, make business decisions and set prices. He started the five-year plan and collectivization occurred where Stalin took over the individual farms that people owned and forced people to live on large government farms called collective farm that was owned by the government. He also took food away from the people of Ukraine when they resisted his program of collectivization, Millions of peasants in Ukraine died of forced starvation.
