What is geothermal energy?

  • Thermal energy generated and stored in the Earths crust.
  • Use for either generating heat or generate electricty.

How is geothermal energy generated directly from heat?

A
  • Pumping water down intot he ground/

- Allowing it to warm up and pumping it back up to the surface to heat our homes.

How do we generate electricity?

A
  • Leave the water underground until it heats so much that it converts into steam.
  • As the steam rises, Gas turns turbines which drive the generators to produce electricity.

Cons of Geothermal energy:

A
  • Only use this in certain areas.
    E.g: Volcanic areas.
  • ## Power plants are expensive to build.
