Density Flashcards
1
Q
What is the particle diagram for solids?
A
- Particles very close together.
- Arranged in regular patterns.
- ## Particles vibrate in a singular spot.
2
Q
What is the arrangement of a liquid?
A
- Particles are close together.
- Not in a regular pattern.
- Particles can move around eachother.
3
Q
What is the arrangement of a gas?
A
- particles are far apart.
- Not arranged in any pattern.
- ## Particles are moving rapidly.
4
Q
What is density?
A
- The density of a material tells us mass for the given volume.
- Calculated with:
- Mass/Volume.
Density= kg/m^3
Mass= kg.
Volume= m^3.
5
Q
What density do solids have?
A
- High density.
- Particles are packed closely together.
- ## Solids have a lot of mass for their volume.
6
Q
What density do liquids have?
A
- High density.-
- ## Particles are closed together so there is a lot of mass for their volume.
7
Q
What density do gasses have?
A
- Gases have a low density.
- Particles are very far apart.
- gasses have only a small mass for their volume.
8
Q
What is the density for polystyrene?
A
- Low.
- Open structure and filled with air spaces.
- ## Small mass for it’s volume.
9
Q
How do we work out the density for regular objects?
A
- Determine the mass using a balance.
- Work out volume we can use a ruler to measure the length of the sides,
- Use the equation to find the desnity.
10
Q
How do we find the density of an irregular object?
A
- Measure the mass using a balance.
- Fill the eureka can with water.
- Place the object into the water and the water will be displayed through the spout.
- Measure the volume of the water displaced.
- Volume is the same volume as the object.
- Measure the density.
