the equality act 2010

what does the equality act 2010 do?
it protects people in the workplace and outside
this protects the rights of people and advocates equality for all
holidays
you must have 5.6 weeks of holiday in the uk.
you must be paid your normal wage
why have holidays
so workers are able to have a rest from work
holidays calculation
normal working days * 5.6 = days off
max. work
48 hrs per week or 40 for under 18s
choice and work
a worker can choose to work more than 48hrs
what can an employer cannot do
sack the worker for working overtime
what does max working time does not apply to
the self employed
equal pay discrimination
all women are paid the same as men, in the uk
racial discrimination
all colours race and ethnic groups must be treated the same and fairly
sex discrimination
all men and women must be treated the same and equally
disability discrimination
you cannot discriminated from a disable staff when recruiting if they are able to do the job
sexual orientation
employers cannot have a preference of a worker due to their sexuality

they must be given a 20 minute break for every 6hrs that they work
contract of employment
when a business offers a job to someone a contract has been made
what is a contract?
a legal agreement between two people

a business does not need to give a statement of employment of employment particulars within the next 8 weeks of starting work
what does the statement of work include ?
this includes: number of hours pay holiday entitlements how much notice required is needed before leaving the job
workers and following the law
they will see that the business is good as they will be treated accordingly to the law
this will motivate them to work and make the business to be efficient
workers and respect
if workers are treated with respect in terms of legal requirements it will help for the retention of workers so less money is spent on recruitment.

firms having a good reputation
firms with good reputations for their recruitment and employment practices then it will be easier to find new workers

firm may need to employ more staff than desired
this is because of holidays and they have limit number of hours that workers can work
court cost
breaking the law
if a worker takes legal action against the employer then a business will need to pay for a lawyer
E.G if an employee files for discrimination
