A

70 km/h and over

18
Q

A

30 minutes or less

19
Q

A

30 minutes to 2 hours

20
Q

21
Q

With the fend off positioning of apparatus, what is the ideal angle position?

A

20-30 degrees

22
Q

With the fend off and inline positioning of apparatus, what is the distance from the center of the traffic line to apparatus as the lateral buffer zone?

A

Minimum 0.5 m

23
Q

When should cones be deployed?
Cone placement and deployment will vary depending on posted road speed, road conditions, and traffic considerations. Cones should always be used as a delineation of the activity area irrespective of the posted speed.

A

Low Speed Roadways (60 km/h or less)
Incidents that are anticipated to take 30 minutes or less to clear on low speed roadways, arrow boards may be sufficient warning for oncoming motorists. Cones placed behind the apparatus are not required unless the determined by the officer in charge.

High Speed Roadways (70 km/h or more)
For incidents that are anticipated to take 30 minutes or less to clear on high speed roadways, and the officer in charge determines traffic control behind the apparatus will be required, crews should only deploy cones when the traffic has slowed and is safe to do so.

24
Q

Transportation Agencies…
The City of Calgary ROADS manages all public roadways in Calgary EXCEPT __________ and __________, which are currently managed by the province through contract services.

A

Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail

There are numerous provincial contractors which have the responsibility to maintain Deerfoot and Stoney Trail and their encroachments.

25
Q

What is the buffer zone…

A

A buffer zone is described as “a space between the incident site and the fire apparatus”.
A buffer zone should be established at all traffic scenes.
Should the shielding apparatus be hit by a vehicle, the apparatus should not be pushed into the original incident.
A buffer zone creates an escape zone or clear operating area for emergency personnel working he scene.
The apparatus remains functional for firefighting operations.
Scene evidence preservation.

The recommended distance between apparatus and the incident is 4 meters for every 10 km/h of posted speed.

26
Q

How is a taper measured?

A

A taper is measured along the direction of road way, not along the diagonal.
