24
Q

What are three types of valves?

A

Rotary

25
Q

When joining two sections of hose, the coupling should be tightened by…

A

Tightened by hand. Do not use hose spanners.

26
Q

Where is the male coupling and nozzle on the high rise bundle (44mm)…

A

On the inside of the bundle. The female coupling is on the outside and left unattached.

27
Q

What are specialty nozzles with the CFD?

A

Ram piercing nozzle
Exposure nozzle
19mm forestry nozzle

28
Q

What is the most common construction material used for hose fittings…

A

Brass and aluminum.

But CFD uses Pyrolite.

29
Q

What is the required hose replacement station compliment for 44mmx15m?

A

Full compliment in the station. This is one length for every length on the apparatus.

30
Q

What is the required hose replacement station compliment for 44mmx30m?

A

Full compliment in the station. This is one length for every length on the apparatus.

31
Q

What is the required hose replacement station compliment for 65mmx15m?

A

There are 10 lengths of replacement for each engine in station.

32
Q

Where is the replacement hose compliment for 77mmx15m?

A

4 lengths in each District Chief station.

33
Q

Where is the replacement hose compliment for 25mmx15m forestry hose?

A

4 lengths in each District Chief station.

34
Q

Where is the replacement hose compliment for 25mmx30m forestry hose?

A

4 lengths in each District Chief station.

35
Q

Corrosion… p555
Corrosion happens when a substance in the environment gradually weakens metal over time. The metal is slowly converted into a weaker compound. The most common couplings metals are aluminum and brass (CFD uses Pyrolite). Each of these possess a high resistance to corrosion but will suffer some deterioration when exposed to certain conditions.

A

Brass is highly resistant to corrosion. Overtime, however, a brass coupling will corrode when it is in contact with moist organic materials or earth.

Aluminum couplings develop a layer of corrosion (aluminum oxide) that in effect “seals” the metal against further oxidization. This layer can be be scratched or abraded during use an a new layer will form over time.

36
Q

Hard suction hose…

What are the sizes of hard suction hose and who carries them?

A
The hard suction hose sizes used by the CFD are:
65mm
77mm
100mm
125mm

Hard suction hoses are carried on all CFD tenders.

37
Q

The CFD uses a three piece coupling for its 44mm and 65mm couplings.

What do they consist of?

A

A male threaded shank
A female threaded swivel
A non threaded shank to which the female is attached.

38
Q

Inspection requirements…

Hoses will be visually inspected for…

A
Vandalism
Free from debris
Mildew or rot
Chemical damage
Burns or cuts
Excessive abrasion
Vermin damage
An internal inspection at each of the couplings will check for delamination of the hose.
39
Q

Inspection requirements…

Couplings will be visually inspected for…

A

Damaged threads
Corrosion
Slippage of the hose
Out of round
Connections not rotating freely
Missing lugs
Loose external collar
Internal gasket for presence, tight fit, lack of deterioration and not protruding into the waterway.
Any locking device not operating properly
Other defects that could impair operation

40
Q

What is considered a leader line?

A

A leader line is a minimum of 4 x 15m lengths of 44mm and 65mm hose, pre-connected, with a nozzle.

The flat load is used on leader lines.

Engine 25 is the only engine on CFD that has 6 pre-connected leader lines. (This is in the CFD manual)

41
Q

What is the name of the load for the trash/bumper line?

A

Scorpion load.

42
Q

What is the name of the load for the 125mm supply hose for engines after 2016 and CFD quints?

A

The coupling forward column load is used on CFD engines manufactured after 2016 and all CFD quints. This load saves space and allows for the hose to lay flat. There are slight variations between engines and quints depending on the length and width of the hose bed.

43
Q

What is the rated pressure of low pressure high volume (yellow 125mm) hoseline?

A

Rated to 1400kpa

200psi

44
Q

What is the rated pressure of high pressure high volume (red or green 125mm) hoseline?

A

2100kpa

300psi

45
Q

CFD hoselines all have a rated pressure. What is the pressure of the attack lines on CFD engines?

A

The 44mm and 65mm are 2800kpa (400psi).

The odd one is the 77mm with the unpainted coupling found on two stage engines and quints. That one is 4000kpa (600psi)

46
Q

On CFD engines, the transvere lines can be different colors, yellow and orange. Where is the orange transverse bed positioned?

A

In the middle of the two yellow lines. Between the 44mm and the 65mm.

47
Q

What is the pressure rating for the blue hose on CFD engines? With and without the RED fitting…

A

The 77mm with the unpainted coupling found on two stage engines and quints is 4000kpa (600psi).

The blue hose with the red fitting is less is 2800kpa (400psi).

48
Q

Care and Maintenance… CFD Manual

How often should should apparatus hose loads be changed?

A

Apparatus hose loads should be changed every THREE MONTHS. Hose should be exchanged with station compliment. This prevents damage and permanent set to the rubber lining and prevents mold, mildew, and rot. Hose load changes should be recorded in the station log books.

49
Q

What is the location of hard suction hose on CFD apparatus?

A

Hard suction hose is located on all CFD tenders.

50
Q

How is hard suction hose cleaned?

A

Hard suction hose is cleaned with a bristle brush and soapy water. Rinse with clean water.
