How might roof openings or modifications impact fire fighting operations
They may allow a means for heat and gas to travel. May weaken the structural integrity of the roof. May add additional load to roof.
What are the three main components that make up roofs
Roof supports, roof Decks, Roof Coverings.
What are the three main types of roof shapes?
Pitched, Flat, Arched.
How do protected, exterior, and unprotected stairs differ from each other
Protected stairs are a means of egress from an emergency and are built to reduce the spread of fire. Exterior stairs have 2 or more sides exposed to outside, providing good ventilation, Unprotected stairs are “convenience stairs” and do no provide protection against fire spread.
What challenges do basements and stairs present to firefighters
Limit access to basement.
May be unfinished.
Provide limited access.
Be a route for gas/heat.
