Q

How should guarded IDG pb be used?

A

Disconnects IDG from engine.
Hold until GEN FAULT light comes on, but max 3 seconds to avoid damage to disconnection mechanism.

-IDG can only be reconnected by maintenance.

9
Q

How does the RAT power the emergency generator?

A

RAT pressurises the BLUE hydraulic system. Hydraulic fluid is then used to drive the emergency generator.

13
Q

AC ESS Bus powers the AC ESS SHED Bus. What is its function and how is this displayed on ECAM?
(Same applies to DC ESS SHED Bus)

A

AC ESS SHED Bus powers items that, although important, are shed when battery is the only electrical source.

No display on ECAM when powered. SHED displayed in amber if failed or unpowered.

14
Q

What is the purpose of AC and DC Ground/Flight Buses?

A

Used to power certain components for servicing aircraft. Energised by MAINT BUS switch (above fwd galley) without energising entire electrical system.

Normally powered by AC Bus 2 and DC Bus 2.

16
Q

With GALY & CAB pb in AUTO (lights out) and only one generator operating (in flight), what is automatically shed?

What else if selected off? (Flight or ground)

A

-Main galley power supply.
-in seat power.
-inflight entertainment.

If selected off also sheds second galley power supply.

*both cases GALLEY SHED will appear on ELEC page.

17
Q

What does COMMERCIAL pb (if equipped) power? (4 items)

A

-cabin and cargo lights.
-water and toilet system.
-drain mast ice protection.
-pax entertainment system.

18
Q

Under normal conditions which bus powers the DC BAT Bus?

A

DC Bus 1

19
Q

Is DC Bus 1 connected directly to DC ESS Bus?

A

No- it flows through DC BAT Bus.

20
Q

What batteries are equipped?

A

Two NiCad batteries.

21
Q

Where are batteries located?

A

In individual vented compartments within the avionics compartment.

22
Q

How are batteries charged? How long does it take?

A

If a battery requires charge, the BCL (battery charge limiter) will connect it to the DC BAT Bus.
Depending on charge can take 20 minutes.

23
Q

How is AC and DC power delivered from each battery when batteries are the only power source?

A

Battery 1 powers a static inverter which powers the AC Static Inverter Bus.

Battery 2 powers the DC ESS Bus to meet DC.

24
Q

How do hot battery buses work?

A

Each battery is connected to its respective hot buss, to power things such as clock and battery voltage display.

To disconnect from hot bus the battery must be physically removed.

No indication of hot bus on ECAM.

25
Q

When does the electrical system downgrade to emergency configuration and deploy the RAT in flight?

A

When power is not available to AC Bus 1 and AC Bus 2.

26
Q

How long does the emergency generator take to come online?

A

5 to 10 seconds.

During this time battery is the sole source of power.

27
Q

Does battery charging occur in emergency configuration?

A

No- because the emergency generator is incapable of powering the DC BAT Bus.

28
Q

When does the emergency generator disconnect automatically on landing?

A

When airspeed has reduced below 100kts.

29
Q

How long will battery last on battery only configuration?

A

Effective continuous battery usage is limited to approximately 25 minutes.

30
Q

Where are circuit breakers located that are associated with systems that are powered while in the emergency electrical configuration?

A

On the overhead panel.

31
Q

What are green circuit breakers associated with?

A

Monitored by flight warning computers and will generate an ECAM failure message.

32
Q

What are yellow circuit breakers for?

A

These are to be used as directed by QRH during flight on battery only and may increase effective battery time to at least 30 minutes.

33
Q

What are red circuit breakers on aft bulkhead for?

A

Wingtip brakes which activate if flap or slat asymmetry is detected. These can’t be manually pulled.

Will generate an ECAM message.

34
Q

In the emergency electrical configuration when does the static inverter automatically activate after landing?

A

When speed reduces below 100kts.

35
Q

In emergency electrical configuration, what busses are powered?

A

AC ESS and DC ESS on battery power.
