Electrical Flashcards
What does the electrical system consist of in terms of AC/DC systems?
-115/200V 400Hz AC system
-28V DC system
What two buses distribute AC power throughout aircraft?
AC1 and AC2
What 3 buses is DC power primarily supplied from?
DC1, DC2 and DC BAT Bus
How is AC power converted to DC?
Two transformer rectifiers- TR1 and TR2
What buses ensure AC and DC power remain available during an electrical emergency?
AC ESS Bus and DC ESS Bus
What are the 7 sources of electrical power?
-2 aircraft batteries- used to provide limited power to aircraft and to start APU.
-2 IDGs which supply AC power during flight.
-APU driven generator- supplies AC power on ground and in flight.
-RAT- supplies limited source of backup AC power.
-external ground power-AC on ground.
What happens if APU and External power is connected to AC buses?
External power has priority.
How should guarded IDG pb be used?
Disconnects IDG from engine.
Hold until GEN FAULT light comes on, but max 3 seconds to avoid damage to disconnection mechanism.
-IDG can only be reconnected by maintenance.
How does the RAT power the emergency generator?
RAT pressurises the BLUE hydraulic system. Hydraulic fluid is then used to drive the emergency generator.
What does the GEN 1 LINE pb do?
Isolates GEN 1 from the electrical system, except for 1 wing tank fuel pump in each wing.
What does AC Bus 1 usually power?
AC ESS Bus and TR1
What does AC Bus 2 normally power?
When will it power ACC ESS Bus?
TR2
If AC ESS FEED pb is used (ALTN will illuminate- alternate power source for AC ESS Bus)
AC ESS Bus powers the AC ESS SHED Bus. What is its function and how is this displayed on ECAM?
(Same applies to DC ESS SHED Bus)
AC ESS SHED Bus powers items that, although important, are shed when battery is the only electrical source.
No display on ECAM when powered. SHED displayed in amber if failed or unpowered.
What is the purpose of AC and DC Ground/Flight Buses?
Used to power certain components for servicing aircraft. Energised by MAINT BUS switch (above fwd galley) without energising entire electrical system.
Normally powered by AC Bus 2 and DC Bus 2.
What is the power priority for each respective AC Bus?
- Respective engine driven generator.
- External power.
- APU Generator.
- Opposing engine generator.
