What is the hidden curriculum?
The attitudes and behaviour which are taught through the school’s organisation and teacher’s attitudes but are not part of the formal timetable

The hidden curriculum in schools corresponds closely to many features of the work place
What features are there of the hidden curriculum?
-privileges and responsibilities given to older pupils
-school rules, detentions and suspensions,rewards like merits,prizes, good marks
-school assemblies
-pupils lack of power and control about the subjects taught how the school is run or the school day is organised
-the authority hierarchy of the school involving pupils fitting into a complex organisations of heads, deputies, heads of departments, head of years
-males and females often having different dress rules,being expected to conform to different standards of behaviour and being guided to different subjects (further education and careers)
-respect the authority of teachers regardless of what they say or do
-punctuality/being on time
-streaming and setting by ability, with rewards and prizes give for hard work and exam success

-Age hierarchy- older people are always going to have more privileges and responsibilities than you

Rewards and consequences- rules are to show what is expected of you, consequences + rewards are a result of good and bad actions
