How does diet and health effect education?
-Children from poorer households have a lower intake of vitamins and minerals
-Poor nutrition affects the immune system
-poor immune system may lead to increased absence from school
-Lack of nutrition may lead to difficulty concentrating in class
Diet and health: What kind of baheviour are child from lower classes likely to show
-Children from lower classes are more likely to have emotional/ behavioural problems
-More likely to engage in externalising behaviour such as fighting which could lead to suspension
How could you evaluate diet and health?
-Free school meals were provided to avoid absences due to illness
How does poverty and circumstances impact education?
-Overcrowding may leave less room for educational activity’s
-Disturbed sleep
-Devolpment can be impaired
-Families living in temporary accommodation may have to switch schools regularly
-children in crowding are more likely to have accidents
-Cold/damp housing can cause I’ll health
Why does fear of debt impact education?
-Going to university causes debt
-Expensive to cost the cover of tutition fees, books and living expensive
-Deters working class students
-Less likely to receive financial support from their family
-More likely to go to local university’s which a lower status
How do Financial support and the costs of education impact education?
-Have to go without equipment and experiences that enhances educational achievement
-May result in children feeling isolated
-The cost of items such as transport,uniforms, books, computers, calculators, sports,music and art equipment
-Inability to afford private schooling + poorer quality of local school
-Children of families in lower income may have to work to help provide for the family which has a negative impact on education
How could you evaluate the costs of education?
-Support is available through PPE funding
-EMAs we’re abolished in 2011
