Pupils would be taught practical skills
What was an opportunity for students if they got in to Grammar schools?
They had access to exams meaning that they could get in to university
What was a disadvantage of being in a Secondary Modern school in terms of exams? What did this mean?
They did not do exams, meaning that they could not get in to universities
What test did children have to do to get in to a certain school? At what age?
At the age of 11, they would do the 11+ Test
How did Secondary Modern Schools put late academic bloomers at a disadvantage?
If they did bad and ended up in a Secondary Modern School, they could do another test to possibly get in to a grammar school
What gender inequality was there with girls getting in to a grammar school?
A girl could only get in to a grammar school if she did the best out of all of the boys in the 11+ test

Middle Class students
Why did Girls have to get a higher grade than all of the boys in their class to get in to a grammar school?
Because at the time it was believed that girls’ intelligence developed quicker than boys
