Digestive System Flashcards
Mouth
Voluntary control of eating and swallowing. Mechanical digestion of food by chewing and mixing with saliva which contains lubricants and enzymes that starts starch digestion
Espohagus
Movement of food by peristalsis from the mouth to he stomach
Stomach
Churning and mixing with secreted water and acid which kills foreign bacteria and other pathogens in the food, plus initial stages of protein digestion
Small intestine
Final stages of lipids, carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acids, neutralising stomach acids plus absorption of nutrients
Pancras
Secretion of lipase, amylase and protease
Liver
Secretion of surfactants in bike to break up lipid droplets
Gall bladdler
Gall bladder storage a regulated release of bike
Large intestine
Re absorption of water, further digestion especially of carbohydrates by symbiotic bacrtia, plus formation and storage of feces
