Why do you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
To optimise performance in physical activity and sport and maintain a healthy weight.
What does the eatwell guide show?
How we need to make up our diet from different types of food to get the correct balance
What are the food groups?
Carbs
fruit and veg
protein
calcium
fats
Why do we need a variety of food groups?
so we get the necassary range of nutrients e.g the eatwell guide tells us that we need to eat 5-10 pieces of fruit and veg a day but we cant have 5 pieces of the same fruit as it only counts as one.
What are the nutrients?
Carbs
proteins
minerals
water
vitamins
fibre
fats
What is energy balance?
ensure that the quantity we consume relates to how much exercise we do in order to have the correct nutrients for energy.
What happens if we consume too much or too little?
Eating too much in relation to the amount of activity we do leads to overweight
Eating too little leads to underweight
What is a balanced diet?
Eating a variety of food from all the different groups of food in the correct proportions.
