Cardiovascular System 1 And 2 Flashcards
What are the 3 functions of the cardiovascular system?
- Regulation of body temp
- Clotting of open wounds
- Transport of oxygen, carbon dioxide and nutrients.
Body temp
Important that our boys temp stays the same
- must not get too hot or too cold
Helps to regulate our body temp
Vasodilation and vasoconstriction
Clotting if open wounds
Help form scabs and clot wounds - platelets
Transportation
Blood vessels are where oxygen is carried throughout the body
Heart is always pumping
What is the word equation for respiration?
Oxygen + glucose = energy + carbon dioxide + water
Explain how the cardiovascular system helps regulate the body temp when the skier gets too cold.
The blood vessels undergo vasoconstriction where it decreases in diameter so less heat is lost by radiation.
Vasoconstriction
Occurring in inactive areas where the blood vessels are being made smaller.
Blood flow to digestive system would be lower.
Vasodilation
Occurring in active areas where the blood vessels are made bigger.
Blood vessels in the muscle dilate.
Vascular shunting
Redistributed of blood flow during exercise.
Blood is diverted from inactive areas to active areas.
Describe the path of oxygen in the heart.
Vena cava, right atrium, right ventricle, pulamonary artery
Pulmonary vein, left atrium, left ventricle, aorta
name the three valves
triscupid valve.
bisuspid valve
semi-lunar valvles
explain the function of the pulmonary artery.
Pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood from the heart which goes to the lungs supplying the blood with oxygen which is eventually pumped to the working muscles.
Why is the Cardiovascular system important to an athlete?
When the body is performing intensely, demand of oxygen is needed to endure longer in the sport. The heart helps transport blood and nutrients removing by-products like carbon dioxide.
