What is a feasibility study?
Study used to analyse the viability of a project.
What are the main components of a feasibility study?
PLANNING status.
LEGAL / STATUTORY issues.
Analysis of BUDGET relative to requirements.
Assessment of SITE and POSSIBILITY.
PROGRAMME considerations.
PROCUREMENT STRATEGY.
What is a project brief?
Defines the clients requirements for a project.
It will evolve as the stages of the project progress.
Will provide an outline for the design team to develop the design on.
Who prepares the project brief?
It is the client team. Typically led by the project manager (if appointed).
Information included within a project brief? (PUT WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF A GRAFTON BRIEF)
CLIENT AND PROJECT BACKGROUND - Includes client overview, legal constraints, stakeholders, planning permission status.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS- client priorities and critical success factors. (200 bed hotel etc)
PROGRAMME REQUIREMENTS and milestones. (launched by 2022 etc)
FINANCIAL INFORMATION - Budget, funding proposals, operational expenditure.
SITE INFORMATION - Existing site surveys, drawings.
SPATIAL AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS- Schedules of accommodation, outline of finishes and general principles (balconys to each room etc) `
How can you be sure a project brief is being adhered to as a project develops?
Review design at completion of each RIBA work stage checking back to the requirements in brief.
Keep stakeholders regularly informed to ensure design is meeting their requirements.
What are third party stakeholders?

LOCAL GROUPS (ENTERPRISE, HERITAGE, PUBLIC)

How would you deal with 3rd party stakeholders
Map stakeholders associated with project
Establish level of involvement and influence
Tailor strategy to suit each
Review throughout project, stakeholder influence may change
Procurement strategy is?
The plan for acquiring the construction works for the project.
What factors should be considered in a procurement strategy?
Client objectives on risk, cost, time and quality.
How much control the client wants to retain.
Are they a serial or one off developer?
Do they have a preference on the form of contract?
What is a PEP?
Project Execution Plan. Describes who does what an how - defines policies and procedures.
How do you manage the performance of the team on a project?
Ensure they have a robust schedule of services and deliverables.
Hold formal monthly reporting meetings.
Hold weekly progress updates with key updates on deliverables.
Use KPIs.
What is a project managers role?
Subject to appointment with my client but generally my role is to ensure the needs of the project are met in respect of performance and resource to achieve the clients goals.
