Q

Which churches represented the seals?

A

1st Seal: This scene is generally agreed to represent the Christian Church after Pentecost, going forward in obedience to the Lord’s commission to take the Gospel into all the world. It is the Church militant.

2nd Seal: The second church, Smyrna, the persecuted church. This clearly indicates that the dominant phenomenon in the life of the Church is persecution and death.

3rd Seal: The third church, Pergamos period of the Church’s history. The doctrine of Balaam and the teachings and practices of the Nicolatians result in truth being trampled.

4th Seal: The fourth church, Thyatira, with its Jezebel lifestyle. The breaking of the covenant, the corrupt lifestyle, persecution of the saints, idolatry and worldly alliances invoke God’s judgment.
