What does a dermoid cyst look like in cytology?
keratin material with cholesterol crystals
What does an apocrine cyst look like?
Fluid filled, grossly dark brown after aspiration
Not much material seen in cytology
What is an acral lick dermatitis?
non-infectious inflammatory process found on the forelimb
What kind of cells are you likely to see in a foreign body reaction?
More of a mix of cells, e.g macrophages rather than just neutrophils
What kind of cells are you likely to see in an arthropod bite reaction?
More eosinophils
What are the three basic cell types most commonly seen in neoplasia?
- round cell
- epithelial cell
- spindle cell
What are you mainly looking for when you’re looking for malignancy?
pleomorphism in the cells
What can an uneven number of nuclei indicate?
errors in division or multiplication
What are some examples of nuclear atypia?
- Anisokaryosis
- Multinucleation
- Large/Prominent/ atypical nuclei
- Mitotic figures
- Cytophagia
- Nuclear molding
What tumours are most commonly seen in young dogs?
Histiocytoma
What is a malignant epithelial tumour called?
Carcinomas
What do lymphomas usually present as?
a monomorphic population
