CVS embryology Flashcards
What are the 5 components of the primitive heart tube?
Truncus arteriosus Bulbus cordus Primitive ventricle Primitive atrium Sinus venosus
What does the truncus arteriosus form?
Ascending aorta
Pulmonary trunk
What does the bulbus cordus form?
Smooth (outflow) parts of the left and right ventricles
What does the primitive ventricle form?
The majority of the ventricles
What does the primitive atrium form?
Both auricular appendages
Entire left atrium
Anterior part of right atrium
What does the sinus venosus form?
Smooth part of right atrium
Vena cavae
Coronary sinus
What is the first foramen to form between the right and left atrium?
Foramen primum
Which aortic arches disseapear early?
Arch 1, 2 and 5
What does the 1st aortic arch form?
Maxillary artery
What does 2nd aortic arch form?
Stapedial artery
What does the 3rd aortic arch form?
Commencement of the internal carotid artery
What does the 4th aortic arch form?
Right- Right subclavian artery
Left- aortic arch
What does the 5th aortic arch form?
Regresses and doesn’t form anything!!!
What does the 6th aortic arch form?
Right- Proximal right pulmonary artery
Left- Left pulmonary artery and part of ductus arteriosus
What does the 7th segmental artery form?
Left- Left subclavian artery
Right- Part of right subclavian artery
On what day roughly does the heart start beating?
23 (same as when heart begins looping)
What is the ligamentum arteriosum?
The remenant of the ductus arteriosus
How many hours after birth is the constriction of the ductus arteriosus into the ligamentum arteriosum?
10-15 hrs
What is obstetrical climbing?
Constriction of the umbilical vein into the ligamentum teres
What is the role of the ductus arteriosus?
Shunting of blood from the pulmonary vein into the aorta
What causes the forament ovale to close?
Increase in left atrial pressure and decrease in right atrial pressure due to first breath
What is the fossa ovalis?
Remenant of the foramen ovale
What is the ligamentum venosum?
Remenant of the ductus venosus
What was the function of the ductus venosus?
Shunting of blood to bypass the liver
Which arch is the recurrent laryngeal nerve associated with?
The 6th arch
What are the two septa that form in the primitive atrium?
Septum primum and septum secundum
In which septa does the foramen ovale form?
Septum secundum
