Cranial Nerve V (Trigeminal)
A
- Motor: muscles of mastication, elevation of hyoid and larynx
- Sensory: face sensation (cheek, chin, forehead)
- Position of bolus in mouth
- Oral mucosa, teeth and gum sensation

Cranial Nerve VII (Facial Nerve)
A
- Motor: facial expression muscles, shape and motion of lips
- Sensory: taste in anterior 2/3 of tongue
- Face/oral cavity sensation
- Salivary gland stimulation

Cranial Nerve IX (Glossopharyngeal)
A
- Motor: larynx & pharynx elevation
- Stylopharyngeous muscle
-Pharyngeal constriction/shortening - Sensory: taste (posterior 1/3)
- Gag reflex

Cranial Nerve X (Vagus)
A
- Motor: intrinsic laryngeal muscles, velopharyngeal closure, esophageal constriction. Composed of superior laryngeal and recurrent laryngeal
- Sensory: Food residue in larynx, pharynx and esophagus

Cranial Nerve XI (Accessory)
A
- Motor: Innervates sternocleidomastoid muscle
- Temporalis muscles
- Velopharyngeal closure
- Head turning, shoulder shrug

Cranial Nerve XII (Hypoglossal)
A
Motor: innervates all intrinsic tongue muscles and all but 1 extrinsic
- Tongue motion, bolus preparation, removing particles
- Transport of bolus to pharynx
