CP Flashcards
What is a Sequential Compression Device (SCD)?
A method of DVT prevention that improves blood flow in the legs and reduce blood clot. Inflates and deflates.
What is the purpose of a Urinary Catheter with collection bag?
To drain the bladder whenever the patient needs to.
What is a Nasal Cannula?
A device for delivering oxygen. delivers O2 24-44%
-flow rates 1 to 6L/m
-humidification for 3-6 L/m
-flows > 6L/m may cause irritation of nasal mucosa
Can’t control concentration of oxygen.
What is a Non-rebreather mask used for?
To keep the reservoir bag ⅓-½ full with a high flow rate.
-delivers O2 concentration of 75%-100%
-flow rate 8-15 L/m
collapse bag: not enough O2; need to increase O2 given
Used when a patient is about to get intubated or just got extubated.
What is the function of a Chest tube with drainage unit?
To remove air or fluid from the intrathoracic space/pleural space. Restore normal lung expansion and breathing
What is a Peripheral IV line used for?
flexible tube inserted into VEIN usually in arm or hand to deliver fluids, meds, nutrients directly into bloodstream
What does a Swan Ganz catheter measure?
Mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP).
What is the purpose of a Central venous catheter?
To measure central venous pressure, deliver medications intravenously, and draw blood.
What is an Ambu bag?
Also known as a manual resuscitator, it provides respiratory support in emergency situations.
What is a Venturi mask?
A device used for delivering a specific concentration of oxygen.
What is Tracheostomy corrugated tubing used for?
To facilitate airflow in patients with tracheostomies.
What is the function of an Endotracheal tube?
To provide oxygen and inhaled gases to the lungs and protect them from contamination.
What is a Feeding tube?
A G tube or J tube (gastric, jejunum) used for feeding.
What is a Nasogastric Tube (NGT) used for?
For patients with dysphagia, who can’t swallow, or are NPO (nothing by mouth). a type of medical catheter that’s inserted through your nose into your stomach
What does a Pulse Oximeter measure?
Estimates SpO2 as an estimate of SaO2.
SaO2 is measured with blood tests.
What are Restraints used for?
To keep a person in the proper position and prevent movement or falling.
What is the purpose of a Suction Machine?
To remove obstructions from a person’s airway.
What is a Jackson-Pratt Drain used for?
A surgical suction drain that gently draws fluid from a wound.
What is a Hemovac?
A type of drain used during surgery to help remove blood and fluid.
full mask
Purpose: Treats sleep apnea by delivering continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP).
Covers: Nose and mouth.
Used for: Patients who breathe through their mouth or have nasal congestion.
