What is conjunctivitis?
A
inflammatory condition affecting the mucus membrane that covers the outer surface of the eye and the inner aspect of the eyelid

A
- viral (adenovirus is most common)
- bacterial (more common in children, less in adults)
- also can be allergic, mechanical, chemical

A
-infective occurs as a result of reduced host defences and external contamination

A
- Red eye
- discharge
- itchiness
- oedema

A
- opthalmologic exam
- viral PCR swabbing
- swabbing cultures

A
- topical anitbiotics
- supportive therapy for virus
