Communities Flashcards
What is a community
A community is all of the organisms that live in a particular habitat and interact with each other
What is an example of interdependence
Clown fish and anenome:
- clown fish is protected and has a habitat in the anenome
- clown fish removes parasites off the anenome
——> therefore it is a mutualistic relationship because the anenome and clownfish benefit from each other
What is interdependence
The dependence of all living organisms on each other within the community for different things
What is a stable community
- environmental factors and numbers of different species is relatively constant. It they are changing they are changing in cycles such as with the seasons of the year
What is a habitat
The place where an organism lives
What is population
All the organisms of one species living in a habitat
What is an ecosystem
The interaction of a community of living organisms (biotic) with non living (abiotic) parts of their environment
What 3 things do animals compete for
- food
- territory
- mates
What is intraspecific competition
Competition within the same species
What is interspecific competition
Competition between different members of different species
What do plants compete over
- light
- space
- water
- mineral ions (nutrients)
What are Abiotic factors
Non living factors of environment e.g. temp
What are biotic factors
Living factors of the environment e.g. food
What do animals compete over
- territory
- food
- water
- mates
Give examples of Abiotic factors
- Moisture levels
- Light intensity
- Temp
- CO2 levels
- Wind intensity and direction
- Oxygen levels
- Soil pH and mineral content
