Cells Flashcards
Describe a plant cell (7)
Is a plant cell a prokaryotic cell or a eukaryotic cell
Eukaryotic
What is a eukaryotic cell
A complex cell e.g. plant or animal cell
What is a prokaryotic cell
A small simple cell e.g. a bacterium
What happens in the mitochondria
In this sub-cellular structure, most of the reactions of aerobic respiration take place
Describe the cell wall of a plant cell
- made of cellulose
- it supports the cell and strengthens it
Describe the Permanent vacuole
- it contains cell sap ( a weak solution of sugar and salts )
Describe chloroplasts
- it is where photosynthesis occurs, which makes food for the plant
- they have a green substance called chlorophyll, which absorbs the light needed for photosynthesis
What are the similarities between between bacterial and plant cells
Both have:
- cell membrane
- cell wall
- cytoplasm
What are the differences between a bacterial cell and a plant cell
Plant cells have: - chloroplasts and a mitochondria, a true nucleus
Bacteria cells have: - a single circular strand of DNA that floats freely in cytoplasm, small rings of DNA called plasmids
