Puritans
John Winthrop and his followers. Religious group didn’t want to entirely separate from the English church. The wanted to simplify the way of worship.

Leader of a group going to the new land
General court
Puritans giving the right to vote to church members who elected representatives to the general court.
Great migration
In 1640 15,000 men moved to Massachusetts.
Thomas hooker
Puritan minister who led 100 settlers out of Massachusetts to Connecticut. They le because they felt the the governmnet in Massachusetts had to much power.
Fundamental orders of Connecticut
The plan of government in Connecticut. It gave the right to vote to all property owning men. It also limited the governors power.
Roger Williams
Puritan minister who believed that the government had to much power. In his view state and church should be completely separate. Believed in toleration. He was ordered to leave Massachusetts and he went to the Indians who sold him Rhode Island.
Anne Hutchinson
Also fled to Rhode Island. Puritan. (In 1637 she was ordered to paper before the general court. She was questioned without mistake until she said god speaks to me. After this she was ordered out of Massachusetts)
Metacom
The chief if the Wampanoag Indians. He was captured and tortured after attacking New England villages

Letting others practice their own beliefs
