Aminoglycosides (I - A)
A
Gentamicin
Treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
Inhibits protein synthesis in susceptible strains of gram NEGATIVE bacteria, disrupting functional integrity of the cell membrane and causing cell death.

Aminoglycosides (CI - DD):
A
CI: Pre-existing hearing loss
Active infection of herpes or mycobacterial infections
Parkinsonism or Myasthenia gravis
NECESSARY to test urine function frequently
DD: Synergenistic with penicillins, cephalosporins, or ticarcillin
Avoid using with potent diuretics
If PT is going under surgery indicate prominently on chart that the drug has been given.
