Powers given to the national level of government
Delegated powers
When each state respects the laws, officials, and judicial rulings of the other states
Full truth and credit clause
The legal process of returning an alleged criminal to the state in which he/she is charged
Extradition

Categorical grants
Amendment that established a federal income tax
Sixteenth amendment
A system in which the national and state levels are sovereign within their own spheres
Dual federalism
Nickname for the “necessary and proper clause” because it is the source of ever increasing power of the federal government
Elastic clause
Economic program associated with the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt
New Deal
Form of government based on resisting tyranny through limited government and limiting that government by distributing and dividing power among several government levels and organizations
Federalism
A constitutional clause guaranteeing the “privilege’s and immunities” of citizens in several states
Privileges and immunities clause
Constitutional clause giving lawmakers great leeway in making laws, giving the Constitution the ability to grow
Necessary and proper clause
Powers the Constitution withholds from the national government but does not withhold from state governments
Reserved powers
Federal program returning portions of the federal tax income to state and local governments for basically unrestricted use
Revenue sharing
National government powers derived from powers expressly given by the Constitution
Implied powers
Federal grants-in-aid that combine several categorical grants under a general umbrella to simplify use in the local governments
Block grants
