What is a built-up area?
The areas in the cities, designated with the sign with the silhouette of the city.
What is the speed limit within a built-up area?
50 kph, unless there is a sign indicating another max. speed limit (50 or 30 kph).
When driving 30 kph faster than the limit, a judge can revoke the license for eight up to 5 years.
What is the speed limit outside a built-up area?
Flanders: 70 kph.
Wallonia and Brussels: 90 kph.
Some end of a built-up area sign has a 50 above indicating that the maximum speed is 50 until the next crossroad.
What is a residential area?
An area, marked with the signs of the kids playing and the houses. pedestrians are allowed on the road, without hindering the traffic. In this the max. speed limit is 20 kph.
Where is it allowed to park in the residential area?
Only on specific areas marked on the right and left of the road.
What is play street?
A street reserved exclusively for playing at certain times of the day.
Cars are allowed only if they live in that street, have a garage there, or priority vehicles.
What is a school street?
To control the traffic during school times, cars are NOT allowed on a school street.
What is a zone?
One or more public roads where some speed limit or parking rules apply. This is day and night.
There are some electronic zone signs, and these are only valid when they light up.
What is a special reserved crossing?
Part of the road, reserved for buses and trams. Cars are not allowed to drive there, but cycles and mopeds are when indicated by the sign.
