Q

Overall theory Communication Accommodation Theory

A

The underlying motivations and consequences when two people speak(often cultural differences).

Accommodations: People try to adjust style of speaking or behavior to others they talk to(conversational echo) - the extent if determined by field of experience

  1. Speech and behavioral similarities and dissimilarities exist in all conversations
  2. The manner in which we perceive the speech and behaviors of another will determine how we evaluate a conversation.- not always evaluate
  3. Language and behaviors impact information about social status and group belonging - mirror to be part of
  4. Accommodation varies in its degree of appropriateness and norms guide the accommodation process

Q

Critic - scope

A

discussed if it has become a little too broad to work with or if it matter at all that the theory have become more complex. It can be used in various fields, so possibly some fields it would be more relevant to look at a more simple version and some not.

Q

Critic - logical consistency

A

Have had little criticism - but one is that convergence/divergence is too few processes for the complexity of communications

maybe right = maybe there should be a middle-road.
