Acupressure
Applying pressure to specific points of the body, to release muscle tension, restore balance, and stimulate Chi (life force;energy)
Chucking
Massage accomplished by; grasping the flesh firmly in one hand up and down along the bone while the other hand keeps the arm/leg in a steady position
DR. J movement: Kneading the skin surface
benefits oily skiing & helps move sebum out of the follicle
Effleurage
Light continuous stroking movements. Applied with fingers and palms in a slow rhythmic manner.
Foot reflexology
Applying pressure to the feet based on a system of zones and areas on the feet that correspond ro anatomy of the body. Can be performed on hands and ears.
Friction
Deep rubbing movements using hands. Chucking, rolling, & wringing (friction)
Fulling: Type of petrissage
tissue is grasped, gently lifted, and spread out. Mainly used for massaging arms.
Hacking
Chopping movements performed with edges of the hand.
Manual lymph drainage: MLD
gentle rhythmic pressure on the lymphatic system to detoxify and remove waste materials from the body quicker. Reduces swelling.
Massage
Manual or mechanical manipulation of the body by rubbing, gently pinching, kneading, tapping, n more.. To increase metabolism, circulation, and promote absorption & pain relief
Petrissage: Kneading movement
stimulates underlying tissue. Performed by lifting, squeezing, and pressing tissue lightly and firmly
Rolling: Message
tissue is pressed and twisted using back-and-forth movements.
Shiatsu
Application of pressure on acupuncture points found throughout the body to balance the body’s energy flow to promote health. Originated in japan physical therapist.
Slapping
Movements in which the Wrists are kept flexible so the palms come in contact with the skin in light, firm, & rapid strokes. One hand follows the other. Slapping massage.
Tapotement: Percussion
consists of short, quick tapping, slapping and hacking movements.
