Social referencing
The way in which infants or children use the emotions of another person to guide their actions
Basic trust vs. mistrust
If we receive love and attention and our needs are met the first year if life the. We develop a basic trust
Autonomy vs. shame and doubt
During next two years children become ready for individuality. If parents are restrictive and demanding during toilet training then the Cherenkov develop shame and doubt and won’t become independent later on.
Initiative vs. guilt
At 3-5 years. If children are allowed freedom to explore and get answers then develop an initiative but if held back then develop guilt.
Industry vs. inferiority
From 6 years till puberty- life expands into peer and school activities. If child experiences pride and encouragement then develops industry. The opp leads to inferiority
2 types of anxiety
Stranger anxiety- 6/7 months
Separations anxiety- 12/16 months disappears around 2/3 years
Securely attached infants
Explore playroom and interact with stranger
Distressed when mother leaves
Happily greet her
Anxious resistant infants
Fearful when mother is present
Demands her attention and distressed when she leaves
Not soothed in her return and angrily resists her
Anxious avoidant
Little signs of attachment
Seldom cry when mother leaves
Does not seek contact at her return
