Cerebellum (F) Flashcards
What is the function of the cerebellum?
timing and force of muscle activity
What does the inferior cerebellar peduncle connect? 1. What kind of fibers does it have? 2. What does it contain? 3
- medulla
- mostly input (some output)
- restiform and juxtarestiform bodies
What does the middle cerebellar peduncle connect? 1. What kind of fibers does it have? 2.
- pons
2. entirely input
What does the superior cerebellar peduncle connect? 1. What kind of fibers does it have? 2.
- mesencephalon
2. mostly output (some input)
Are there more afferent or efferent fibers to the cerebellum?
afferent
What afferent cerebellar fibers are from the contralateral inferior olivary nucleus? 1. What does it go through to get there? 2. Are there branches? 3
- climbing
- inferior cerebellar peduncle
- none
What afferent cerebellar fibers make up all the afferents that aren’t climbing? 1. Are there branches? 2
- mossy
2. many branches
Where are the cerebellar nuclei located? 1. How do these influence motor activity? 2
- embedded in roof of 4th ventricle
2. output to brainstem and motor thalamus
What are the cerebellar nuclei from medial to lateral?
- fastigial
- interposed (globose and emboliform)
- dentate
What are the cerebellar nuclei from medial to lateral?
- fastigial
- interposed (globose and emboliform)
- dentate
What is the largest cerebellar nuclei? 1. What lobe is it from? 2
- dentate
2. posterior lobe output
What does the AICA supply blood to?
anterior portion of the inferior cerebellum, the middle cerebellar peduncle, and to the facial (CN VII) and vestibulocochlear nerves (CN VIII)
What does the PICA supply blood to?
posterior inferior portion of the cerebellum, the inferior cerebellar peduncle, the nucleus ambiguus, the vagus motor nucleus, the spinal trigeminal nucleus, and the vestibulocochlear nuclei.
