Cartilage Flashcards
what makes up the perichondrium
outer layer - fibrous - fibroblasts, type I collagen and blood vessels
Inner cellular - chondrogenic - source of chondroblasts
where are chondrocytes located?
lacunae of cartilage surrounded by matrix
what is an isogenous group
mitotic division of chrondrocytes - group of 4-8 chondrocytes = isogenous group = cell next
capsular matrix - what is it? where is it? what are its components?
adjacent to chondrocyte - poor in collagen, rich in GAGs, stains basophilic also metachromatic - stain with PAS
where is the territorial matrix found?
around isogenous gorups
where is the inter territorial matrix found?
matrix between isogenous groups
What is cartilage? - overview
specialized CT - avascular - major ground substance is GAGs - lots of water and little bit of chondrocytes
where is hyaline cartilage found?
fetal skeleton, epiphiseal plates, articular surface of joints (long bones), costal cartilages in ribs, cartilages of nasal cavity, larynx (thyroid, cricoid, arytenoids), rings of trachea and plates in bronchi
where is elastic cartilage found?
pinna of external ear, external acousic meatus, auditory estuchian tubes, cartilage of larync (epiglottis, corniculate, cuneiform, cartialges)
where is fibrocartilage found?
intervertebral disc (AF), pubic symphysis, med and lat menisci, attachment of ligament to bone, intersectino of some tendons and ligaments, articular discs
