Cardiovascular patho Flashcards
what is a cyanotic vs acyanotic heart issue
cyanotic- right to left shunt
acyanotic- left to right shunt (seen in VSD, ASD, PDA)
What is fallows tertralogy and what does it consist of (4)
Pulmonary stenosis
VSD
Right ventricular hypertrophy
overriding aorta
What causes an ASD
failure of osmium secundum to close
What causes VSD
defect in ventricular septum- mc defect
What is coartictation of the aorta
narrowing near arch of ligaments arteriosum
What is rheumatic fever due to and what are some key s/s
due to post strep infection
-characterized by aschoff bodies
-MacCallum patches found in left atrium
What organisms can endocarditis be caused by(3)
Inflammation of endocardium (affecting valves)
-strep Pyogenes, strep Viridans, Staph aureus
What causes subacute bacterial endocarditis
-inf of previously ddamaged valves
-sequel of rheumatic fever (s Viridands)
What is acute bacterial endocarditis due to
Inf of previously healthy valves
-seen in IV drug users (s Auerues)
What is Libman Sacks Endocarditis
Endocarditis of pulmonary and tricuspid valves seen in SLE
What does syphilitic aortitis causes (+ what is it caused by)
Affects arch of aorta
-treponema pallidum inf leading to aortic aneurysm, aortic stenosis and angina pectoris
What part of the blood vessel does arthelosclerosis affect
lipid/calcium deposits in tunica intima
What is the pathology of atherosclerosis
sub endothelial fatty streaks, fibrosis, atheroma and rupture with eventual occlusion of embolusformation
What is angina pectoris
reversible inadequately perfused myocardium and pain relieved by rest
What is prinzmental angina
angina that occurs at rest and is caused by coronary artery spasm
