C3-KS42 Flashcards
Ability to identify implications of special structural loading conditions (e.g., heavy equipment, snow, library shelving).
Implications of Special Structural Loading Calculations
Special structural loading means the architect and structural engineer has to consider an increase in Concentrated Loads
Example:
Project scenario could include a library that initially had a slab on grade foundation. Later in the project, the foundation has been revised to be a raised floor foundation.
What implication does this change int he foundation have on the project?
- Library requires a significant amount of dead load (book stacks)
foundation considerations include:
- Deeper beams and floor joists
- Closer spaced beams, joists,
- Closer column spacing
- Combination of the above
It’s important to be able to identify a special structural loading calculations requirement for the Project
Scenario portion of the Exam and being able to recognize a special structural loading situation by reading a
particular question.
