Types of Users
- Homeowner — Typically an individual or couple
- Commercial Building Owner — An individual or business with a board of directors, depending
on the size of the building - Corporation — Typically the Architect interacts with a member of the board of directors who
has been authorized to act on behalf of the board (authorized representative) - Board of Directors — Typically designate an authorized representative to act on behalf of the
board - Real Estate Developer — An individual or a corporation
- End user — In projects involving corporations and commercial projects, it’s important to understand that the Architect does not take direction from end user, but input could be useful during the design process
For the Project Scenario part of the
Exam, the client may be an individual,
a board of directors or trustees, or
another type of governing board.
-It is important to have an understanding of the types of users, especially for the Project Scenario portion of the Exam.

Characteristics for projects involving the Elderly

-Ways to address concerns on a project for a specified Cultural Group;
- Hire an interpreter
- Hire a cultural consultant
- Study of the culture through travel and interviews
- Attend an assembly or gathering at one of the group’s services
- Conduct interviews with members of the cultural community
