What elements are required in a written contract?
A
The following are required in a contract between architect and client. SCANT is a great
acronym to help remember the 5 items;
- Services (description of services to be performed)
- Compensation (Basis of Compensation)
- Addresses (Name, address, license number of architect & name and address of client)
- New Services (Additional Services at hourly rate)
- Termination (description of procedure describing termination procedure)

Written contract not required when;
A
- Professional services rendered when the dient will not pay compensation
- Arrangement as to the basis for compensation is similar to provided in the past for the same client
- If the client knowingly states in writing after full disclosure of this section that a writing which complies with the requirements of this section is not required
- Professional services rendered to a registered professional engineer
