Brain and Cranial Nerves Flashcards
Where and what is the gray matter of the Brain?
Outer part of the cerebrum and cerebellum
Contains neurosomas, dendrites, and synapses
Where and what is the white matter of the Brain?
Inner part of the brain
Contains tracts
What are Meninges of the Cranium?
Dura Mater: Tough outer layer
Arachnoid mater: transparent, middle layer
Pia Mater: delicate inner layer (membrane-like covering of the brain)
Falx Cerebri
Located inbetween the hemispheres of the brain
Tentorium Cerebelli
Located in between Cerebrum and Cerebellum
What do Lateral Ventricles contain?
Consists of Intraventricular foramen
Where is the third ventricle?
Superior to cerebral aqueduct
Where is the 4th ventricle?
Inferior to Cerebral aqueduct
What is the Cerebrospinal fluid?
Where is it found?
Clear, colorless fluid
Flows within ventricles, canals, and subarachnoid space around the CNS
What does the Cerebrospinal fluid do?
Provides buoyancy, protection, and chemical stability
Name the statistics of the Brain.
% of body weight
% of blood received
% of oxygen and glucosed used
2% body weight
Receives 15% of blood
Uses 20% of oxygen and glucose
