BLOOD GROUP ANTIBODIES Flashcards
memorization
Antibody production occurs even without exposure to RBC antigen
Naturally occurring antibodies
Antibody production occurs after exposure to RBC antigen
Immune antibodies
Naturally occurring antibody type:
IgM
Immune antibodies antibody type:
IgG
Optimal temperature reactivity of IgM antibodies
<22C or 4-22C
Optimal temperature reactivity of IgG antibodies:
37C (body temperature)
Examples of Naturally occurring antibodies
- ABO
- Hh
- MN
- Ii
- Lewis
- P
antibodies
Examples of Immune antibodies:
- Rh
- Kell
- Kidd
- Duffy
- Ss
antibodies
Any antibody that reacts ar or near body temperature (30-37C) regardless of specificity, is intentionally clinically significant, which can cause HTR or HDN
Clinically Significant Antibodies
Antibody type(s) that can cause Hemolytic Transfusion Reaction (HTR)
IgG or IgM
Antibody type(s) that can cause Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn (HDN)
IgG only (because IgG is the only Ig type that can cross the placenta)
