Biology Midterm: chp 34 Flashcards
Biotic Factors
Living organisms in the environment
Abiotic Factors
Nonliving physical and chemical conditions
-sunlight, availability of water, temperature, soil type, wind, and number and type of disturbances, fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, and volcanic eruptions
Population
a group of organisms of the same species living in a particular area
Community
made up of all of the organisms living in a particular area
Ecosystem
made up of the abiotic factors and the biotic factors in an area
Biosphere
includes all of Earths ecosystems
the biosphere is…
“patchy”- a particular area may contain an uneven distribution of different ecosystems
habitats
(made by the patchiness of the biosphere) they are specific environments in which organisms live
Five levels of ecological study
- Individual Organisms
- Population
- Communities
- Ecosystems
- Biosphere
