A

The Tables set in November 1638 with the National Covenant established in February 1638 where Scots were committed to nationalism and Calvinism with the covenant containing the Confession of Faith in 1640 and the Negative Faith of opposition to Catholics, 1641, condemned canons and Prayer Book.

Army would assemble at York and Duke of Hamilton would lead them to Firth of Forth, cutting Edinburgh from Highlands, with Scots expected to desert before settlement and arrest of covenanters. A

1639, 30 May, Lord Holland drew up with cavalry ahead of infantry at Kelso and horrified, retreated when he saw large numbers of strategically placed cows and infantrymen, Charles accepted weakness by 3 June.

On June 19 1639, the Pacification of Berwick was signed at Berwick-upon-Tweed. It was pointed, both sides agreed to disband forces and Scotland had Parliament and General Assembly but Scots refused to demand and Charles prepared for war.

A

Providence Island Company Dec 1630 set to colonise Caribbean, Seybrooke Venture for colonisation in New England. Key members were Earl of Bedford, Lord Brooke, Arthur Haselrig, Lord Saye and Sele, John Pym, and the Earl of Warwick. Pym was treasurer and Holland received free fair for procuring favours while other key members were Benjamin Rudyard and Nathaniel Rich.

How was the Providence Island Company ended?

A

Anti-Spanish behaviour in Caribbean inspired by actions of Dutch West India Company actions, set up 1621.
In 1635 plantation scheme failed, sale of company to Dutch suggested in 1637, £120,000 invested which hadn’t been returned, by 1641 the Spanish forces took the company and it was dissolved 1650. Documents likely destroyed.

A

Oxbridge and Inns of Court kept opposition quiet as too high profile and relied on patronage. The Godly Party was in contact with Covenanters, Charles had been spying since 1633.
