Beta Blockers Flashcards
B1 selective blockers?
Acebutolol (partial agonist) Betaxolol Esmolol (short acting) Atenolol Metoprolol
Nonselective blockers (B1 = B2)?
Propranol Timolol Nadolol Pindolol (partial agonist) Please Try Not being Picky
Nonselective (vasodilatory) a- and B-blockers?
Carvedilol and labetolol
Partial B-agonists?
Partial Agonist Pindolol Acebutolol (PAPA)
Why would you use B1 selective?
Pts with pulmonary dz
Which drugs do you NOT give to pts with pulmonary dz?
Nonselective blockers
Overdose sxs?
Bradycardia, hypotension, CV collapse (tx glucagon)
Angina pectoris?
Decreases HR and contractility, resulting in decreased O2 consumption
MI?
Decrease mortality
SVT?
Use metoprolol, esmolol–decreases AV conduction velocity (class II antiarrhythmic)
HTN?
1) Decreases CO
2) Blocks renin secretion
CHF?
Slows progression of chronic failure
Glaucoma?
Uses timolol–decreases secretion of aqueous humor
AEs of B-blockers?
Impotence, exacerbation of asthma, bradycardia, AV blocks, CHF, seizures, sedation, sleep alterations, use with caution in DM
