Behaviourism: operant conditoning Flashcards
How does learning happen
By making and strengthening an assocaitation between a stimulus and a response
What is the association between a stimulus and response called
S-R bond
What happens once the S-R bond has been made
It increases the liklihood of the desired response happening
How are S-R bonds formed
Reinforcment
What did skinner suggest we can do to correct and incorrect responses
Correct responses can be strengthened and inccorect responses can be weakened
What 4 things should a coach do when using operant conditioning
- Allow performer to use trial and error
- Manipulate the environment to ensure the successful/desried response occurs
- Offer a satisfier when correct response is shown so the response will be repeated
- Offer an annoyer when an incorrect response is shown so that the response will not be repeated
Describe postive reinforment
Endorsing a performer’s action when it is correct, so that they repeat that action in the future
Describe negative reinforcment
Saying nothing when a correct action is shown after a period of critism about a performance (removal of negative stimuli)
Describe punishment
Method of reducing or eliminating undesirable actions. eg extra training, fines, bans
