- Body do not make enough insulin
- T cells destroy the Beta cells of the pancreas
2. Diabetes type II (change in confirmation, obesity, exercise)
Body make insulin – but cells do not respond to it

Dietary treatment of type 1 diabetes: Protein
Protein should be of high biological value

Dietary treatment of type 1 diabetes:
Fibre,
High fiber content (10 – 15%)
Will decrease absorption of glucose from the intestines
Dietary treatment of type 1 diabetes:
Fat
Fat below 10% DM (normal 20%)
High fat diet would lead to ketogenesis – due to lack of glucose –> Lead to ketoacidosis
Dietary treatment of type 1 diabetes:
Carbohydrates
Low carbohydrates
Complex CHO (without sugar)
Give starchy low glycemic index feed
