Autonomics DSA Lecture Flashcards
Which receptor increases stroke volume and heart rate?
Beta 1 adrenergic
Which receptors constrict smooth muscle, as a general rule?
Alpha adrenergic
Which receptors increase glandular secretions in the lungs?
Beta adrenergic
What regions of the heart are affected by beta 1 receptors?
AV / SA node
How does the autonomic nervous system affect the cardiovascular system during orthostatic movement?
HR: increase SNS, decrease PNS, increase NE (B1 receptor) to increase HR
SV: Increase SNS, no real PNS, increase NE (B1, ?B2), increase Ca influx, increase strength of contraction, increase HR/SV
TPR: Increase SNS, increase NE (A1), decrease blood supply to periphery (via vasoconstriction) to increase blood to heart and brain
What is the autonomic response of the lungs to maintain blood pressure during orthostatic movement?
Blood vessels in the lungs (extrapulmonary only) constrict via A1 and NE
Bronchial Sm. Ms: Bronchodilation (B2)
Mucous glands: Increased secretions
What is the sympathetic response of the kidney in terms of increasing BP?
afferent arteriole, innervated by SNS brings blood into glomerulus while efferent arteriole controls how fast the blood leaves the glomerular capillaries
A1 receptors allow vasoconstriction and reduce blood flow to kidney
B1 receptors increase renin release which lead to increased Na and water reabsorption which leads to increased blood volume (long term) and blood pressure (short term)
