A
Environmental trigger: viral or chemicals
Defect in genetic component: HLA gene on Chr6

Type 1 and type 2

what does type 1 affect
A
more common in younger women
targets the antinuclear abs (nucleus of hepatocyte)
smooth muscle ab (ducts and vessels)

what does type 2 affect
A
2-14 years of age
Abs against cytosol
and microsomes

Manifestations
A
range from asymptomatic to manifestations of liver failure

Diagnosis
A
exclude viral hep and other liver disease
there will be an increase in gamma globulins

Treatment
A
suppress immune response liver transplant (if drugs don't work)
